The World Bank is to loan US$ 170 million to Nigeria to develop 1,450 km of rural roads.

The financing will contribute to the Nigeria Agriculture Transformation Agenda (NATA), which aims to modernise the country’s agricultural sector by upgrading roadways and river crossings in Adamawa, Enugu, Osun and Niger state.

As well as improving condition on 1,450 km of rural roads, the NATA project will build 65 river crossings, including causeways, fords and small bridges. The funding will also help set up a sustainable road maintenance programme.
