World Bank debars Arinc
11 January 2013
US engineering company Arinc has been banned from World Bank projects for 33 months for procurement violations on a Bank-funded airport development project in Egypt.
The news comes just a week after Serbian contractor Energoprojekt Niskogradnja was debarred from World Bank projects for 2.5 years after admitting fraud on a Bank-financed road and development project in Uganda.
Arinc’s ban is part of a resolution agreement following an investigation by the World Bank Integrity Vice Presidency. Arinc is said to have acknowledged the violation and co-operated fully with the investigation.
Just like the Energoprojekt case, Arinc’s ban also qualifies for cross-debarment by other development Banks (MDBs) under the 2010 Agreement of Mutual Recognition of Debarments.
World Bank Integrity Vice President Leonard McCarthy said, “We pursue our efforts to promote a culture of zero tolerance and effective compliance in collaboration with companies and governments as part of the Bank’s goal to ending poverty.”
