WCT wins Oman road contract

19 August 2012

Malaysian contractor WCT Berhad, in an 80:20 joint venture with Oman Road Engineering Company, has been awarded an RO 123 million (US$ 320 million) contract by Oman's Ministry of Transport and Communications to build Package 2 of its Batinah Expressway.

The contract includes the construction and completion of a 44.75 km four-lane expressway. WCT expects to complete the work in three years.

The Batinah Expressway is the first dual four-lane expressway to be developed in the Sultanate. When completed, it will connect the Muscat Expressway in the Wilayat of Barka to Khatmat Melahah in the Wilayat of Shinas, a distance of about 265 km. The first four packages of the road have been awarded, with the final two still out for tender.
