Volvo Construction Equipment has updated its EC250E and EC300E excavators for the European, Australian and New Zealand markets.

The heavy-duty models now include a new D8M Volvo engine and are said to be 10% more fuel efficient and 5% powerful.

Compared to the previous versions, which were first manufactured in 2014, the updated machines are equipped with more intelligent electro-hydraulics for improved performance. The 36.8-tonne EC300E also has a 700kg heavier counterweight for greater stability and 5% more across lifting capacity.

The machines also include an electric control joystick for improved responsiveness. Another new addition is the factory-fitted tiltrotator preparation system, which gives operators control of both the excavator and tiltrotator using the original joysticks.

While Volvo CE’s EC250E excavator has a maximum operating weight of 31 tonnes and maximum digging reach of 10.3m, its EC300E model offers a reach of 10.7m and digging depth of 7.3m.

The models are available with optional Dig Assist apps that are powered by a 10 inch Volvo Co-Pilot tablet from inside the cab. The apps include 2D, In-Field Design, 3D software packages and On-Board Weighing. The inclusion of Volvo’s Active Control means that operators have more accuracy when digging, which according to the manufacture, means tasks can be completed up to 45% faster with automated boom and bucket movements.

The machines are fitted with an ergonomic, low-noise Volvo Care Cab that includes Volvo’s new bounce reduction technology for less machine shock. The manufacturer’s Comfort Drive Control also allows operators to steer the machine using the joystick rollers, which helps to reduce operator fatigue.

While the company’s previous versions of the models will no longer be produced, the company’s EC250D and EC300D machines will continue to be available in less regulated markets.
