Video: Ferrovial’s heavyweight bridge manoeuvre

Spanish construction giant rolls 2,200 tonne bridge into position over busy motorway

Ferrovial prepares to roll the Concordia Bridge into position in Madrid

Ferrovial recently completed the positioning of a bridge span in Madrid, by simply rolling the 2,200 tonne structure into position.

The video below shows how the Spanish contractor manoeuvred the 162m span from the side of the busy M-12 motorway, using self-propelled modular trailers (SPMTs).

The bridge has a deck width of 24.5m to accommodate two lanes of traffic in both directions, plus sidewalks.

The deck is constructed from 3m sections of steel, covered by a 0.25m-thick layer of concrete slab.

The bridge is balanced at each end with a counterweight, which is anchored to the ground with stakes under traction.

When open, the Concordia Bridge will create a direct connection between the Valdebebas area of Madrid and terminal 4 of the nearby Barajas Airport.
