Transport corridor

Brazil: The Brazilian state governments of Minas Gerais, Goiás and Espirito Santo have announced plans to create transport corridor linking the three states.

The project involves regenerating existing railways and laying new track as well as improving highways and is expected to cost in the region of US$ 6.5 billion. According to a spokesman at the Minas Gerais governor's office, the transport corridor will improve links between the landlocked agricultural states of Minas Gerais and Goiás and the coastal ports in Espirito Santo.

The scheme is being supported by Brazil-based mining company Vale do Rio Doce. The states hope to use public private partnerships to subsidise funds from within the three states and federal government.
