The Texas Transportation Commission has authorised the spending of US$8.9 billion, to drive forward more than 230 road construction projects.

In a statement, following the decision, Commissioner J Bruce Bugg Jr said the funds to be released represented 44% of the Texas Department of Transportation’s 10-year budget.

Additionally, a decision was made to award a $1.2 billion highway project to Grand Parkway Infrastructure.

The work involves the design and build of a 70 km tollway extension, which will include two toll lanes and passing sections.

The firm contracted to undertake the work is Grand Parkway Infrastructure, a joint venture between Ferrovial Agroman US, Granite Construction and Webber.

Work will start in early 2018, with completion anticipated early in 2022.
