SMOPYC opens its doors

This year’s International Show of Public Works, Construction & Mining Machinery (SMOPYC) in Zaragoza, Spain, has begun.

Around 720 exhibitors from 28 different countries are expected to line the halls at the exhibition, which runs from 1 to 5 April at the Zaragoza Exhibition Centre, taking up 55,000 m² of space.

The show is organised by ANMOPYC, the Spanish Manufacturer’s Association Construction, Public Works & Mining Machinery.

International manufacturers such as Wacker Neuson, Hidromek, Bobcat and Genie have joined local Spanish players to exhibit at the show.

Products are divided up into eight different sectors – earthmoving and roads; aggregates and concrete; elevation and maintenance; drilling, industrial vehicles and transport; auxiliary construction equipment; components, spares, accessories and services; and a live demonstration area.

The last few years have clearly represented a difficult time for the construction equipment industry in Spain and southern Europe as a whole – not to mention the rest of the EU – and ANMOPYC is highlighting the importance of the exhibition for manufacturers to develop and expand their international export networks.

ANMOPYC said reverse trade missions with international buyers would play a significant role on the show agenda. Distribution companies, importers, representatives and certain construction companies are to be invited to join these reverse trade missions.

Companies from Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Uruguay, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Morocco, Algeria, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Russian Federation, Belarus, Turkey and Iran will be represented.

The main objective of the reverse trade missions is to promote the potential of Spanish construction, public works and mining machinery abroad. In addition, visitors to the show are to be offered the opportunity to hold interviews with Spanish manufacturers from the sector and learn about their products.
