Sheffield joins Laing O'Rourke
21 July 2014
UK-based construction company Laing O’Rourke has appointed former Kier boss Paul Sheffield as managing director of the group’s Europe hub, covering operations in Canada, UK and the Middle East.
Serving under group chief executive Anna Stewart, Sheffield will have executive responsibility for leading the development and delivery of the group’s growth agenda in these core markets.
Sheffield joins Laing O'Rourke from Kier, where he worked for 31 years, most recently as CEO. During his four-year tenure as CEO of Kier, he oversaw a significant expansion in its activities, including the acquisition of May Gurney.
Sheffield is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and has an honorary doctorate from the University of Surrey in recognition of the major contributions he has made to the civil engineering profession. He is also an inaugural member of the UK Government’s Construction Industrial Strategy Advisory Council (CISAC), set up by the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) to drive a long-term strategy for growth in construction across the UK.
