Verona will again be the setting for Samoter, where the 28th staging of the International Triennial Earth-moving & Building Machinery Exhibition will take place.

Samoter is a well-established part of the industry calendar and has again attracted a line-up of big names on its exhibitor list.

The organisers report that these include Italian and international brands in earth moving, concrete, road building, drilling, tunnelling, quarrying, crushing, demolition and recycling, hoisting and handling, transport and vehicles, and components.

The importance of Samoter and the Italian market is not lost on Michel de Weert, marketing manager of Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe (HHIE).

He said, "We all know how difficult the market is at the moment, but we consider it is the ideal time to demonstrate our confidence with our on-going product development programme, and to promote the innovative and expanding 9 Series range of excavators."

HHIE will display equipment for the construction, mining and quarrying industries, with the first public showing in Italy of the 9 Series Excavators, and the introduction of three completely new compact, short tail-swing models.

The full line-up of Hyundai machines at Samoter will include the R16-9, R 27Z-9, R35Z-9 mini-excavators; the R60CR-9, R80CR-9, R210NL-9, R320NLC-9 crawler excavators; the R140W-9 wheeled excavators; and the HL740-9, HL770XTD-9 wheeled loaders.

In conjunction with the introduction of the new 9 Series, Hyundai has also made available its advanced GPS-based Remote Management System called Hi-Mate, which allows owners and operators to know the exact location of the machine at any time, and to retrieve operational and diagnostic data.

Samoter will offer New Holland Construction a chance to present its Tier IV solutions and to exhibit its first models with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology.

New Tier IV models from New Holland include the E305C crawler excavator and the two wheeled loader models - the W170C and W190C.

The new E305C crawler excavator will be exhibited on the stand at the show, demonstrated as part of the company's quarry offering, while the new W170C and W190C wheel loaders, shown in the stand's road building display area, feature high-pressure common rail engines that claim best in class power and torque.

The B115B and B110BTC backhoe loaders on the New Holland stand introduce new features that the company claimed significantly increased fuel efficiency, operator comfort, productivity and durability.

New Holland's sister companies Astra and Iveco will be represented, while Fiat FPT, which develops New Holland's engine technology, will present its Tier IV solutions.

During 2011 and 2012, Case Construction Equipment will renew up to 90% of its construction equipment lines, aiming to provide customers with increased productivity, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

The first opportunity for European customers to see the start of this process will be at Samoter. Case will use the show to unveil a new generation of its range of tractor loader backhoes - the T Series Construction King - and to take the wraps of its Tier 4 Interim engine line-up.

The Case stand will include a host of new and improved machines, including the range-topping 695ST loader backhoe, Tier 4 powered versions of the new CX250C and CX350C crawler excavators, and the first European showing for the 821F wheeled loader.

The Liebherr Group will exhibit a cross-section of its construction machinery technology at Samoter.

This will include the TA 230 articulated dumper, the A 918 Compact wheeled excavator, the EP 934 electrically powered material handler and the LB 16 rotary drilling rig.

The TA 230 articulated dumper, a centre-steered vehicle and the first in a new Liebherr product category is making its Italian debut. This new development is Liebherr's response to significantly increasing demand for articulated dumpers in the 30-tonne category.

The new ER 934 C material handler is based on the R 934 C industrial handler, and is equipped with a powerful electric drive for semi-stationary work.

Three wheel loaders, two crawler excavators, another wheeled excavator, a crawler tractor and a crawler loader are also being exhibited, each featuring the latest Liebherr technology.

Samoter will be the first public showing, globally, of various Volvo Construction Equipment products.

Volvo said that while many have viewed Stage IIIB emissions compliance as the key driver of developments over the past few years, it has considered the legislation much more as an endorsement of its core value of environmental care.

As such, the new models launched by Volvo at Samoter are being described as emission compliant as a matter of course, while it added that, more importantly, they set new standards in terms of design, fuel efficiency, performance, quality and safety.

The six-strong range of Volvo F-Series articulated haulers (ADTs) starts with the A25F featuring a load capacity of 24 tonnes, through to the A40F FS with a load capacity of 39 tonnes. On show at Samoter will be both the 28 tonne capacity A30F and the range-topping A40F.

Volvo said its new G-Series range of wheeled loaders set new standards in terms of fuel efficiency with an improvement of up to 15% over the previous F-Series loaders. The new D-Series generation of Volvo's tracked excavators will be represented at Samoter by the range-topping 50,5 tonne EC480D. New B-Series backhoe loaders from Volvo Construction Equipment represent a thorough redesign of this utility segment specialist.

For the first time, Volvo Penta's industrial engines will be on show at Samoter offering an SCR solution to Stage IIIB compliance.

Bobcat will be showing its new TR50210 rotary telehandler, S850 skid-steer loader, T870 compact tracked loader, WS32 wheelsaw and 3400D utility vehicle for the first time at the exhibition.

The TR50210 is one of four new rotating telehandlers from Bobcat, complementing the company's existing range of 12 rigid frame telehandlers. The new 360° and 400° rotating models offer lifting capacities from 3,5 to 5,0 tonnes and lifting heights from 15,7 to 24,5 m.

The new S850 skid-steer loader and T870 compact tracked loader are claimed to be the most powerful loaders offering the highest lift height (3657 mm) ever manufactured by the company.

The increased power, traction and versatility offered by the 3400D utility vehicle from Bobcat allow the user to take on a wider variety of applications and to negotiate all types of terrain in areas as diverse as farms and country estates through to construction and landscaping worksites, said Bobcat.

The German-owned Wirtgen Group is attending Samoter through its Italian subsidiary Wirtgen Macchine.

A 400 m2 stand will exhibit a selection of road construction equipment, designed specifically to fulfil the requirements of the European market. The service, spare parts, technical and application support, and financial services offered locally by the Wirtgen Macchine organisation will be demonstrated too.

For the Wirtgen brand, two milling machines will be displayed - the W 130 F, a 1,300 mm drum width milling machine; and the 2-metre class W 200, 410 kW/558 PS, which Wirtgen said had been successful since its launch onto the Italian market.

The SP 15 slipform paver, said to be suited for even complicated offset concrete profiling, is new to the market. The stabiliser/cold recycler WR 2000 will also be on show.

From Vögele (part of the Wirtgen Group), three pavers will be displayed - the Super 800 mini paver, with tamper/vibrating screed of the 200 ton/hr class; the powerful and compact Super 1303-2; and the high performance Super 1803-2.

Also on the Wirtgen stand, the Hamm brand will be represented by two rollers in the light articulated class - HD8VV and HD14VV. There will also be a new articulated HD+90 VO, a vibrating/oscillating 9380 kg asphalt roller. Hamm's "revolutionary" GRW 280 all-wheeled roller with modular ballasting system will complete the compaction representation.

Wirtgen Macchine product specialists will be on the stand to discuss application and features of the Kleemann crushers and screens product range, recently introduced to the Italian market and with more than 15 units delivered in less than two years.

A special area of the stand will be dedicated to milling technology, with a display of the cutting tools, exclusively developed by Betek for the Wirtgen Group, for road milling, stabilisation and recycling applications.

The AP500E, the newest 1,5 tonne wheeled paver from Caterpillar, will be on show at Samoter. The new model joins the AP300 and AP600D Cat family.

Cat said that paving contractor Varesco tested the AP500E on two difficult jobsites. One was a confined site with an abundance of manholes; the other featured a road with a slope so steep the transport truck trailers were covered to prevent material from spilling out the back.

Heinz Serra, operator of the paver for Varesco, said, "The machine is quite easy to move according to your needs in any working environment, from small jobsites like residential street works to industrial yards, from local and regional streets to narrow mountain roads that represent the majority of our jobs."

At the conclusion of the trial period, Varesco purchased the paver, said Cat.

JCB's New Generation skid steer loaders will be showcased at Samoter.

Seven skid steers - four wheeled and three tracked - have been added in a range that will eventually grow to 18 models. All seven are vertical lift, which the company said allowed for increased capacity and more reach at maximum lift height.

The 260, 280, 300 and 330 wheeled skid steers and 260T, 300T, 320T track loaders are large platform machines with rated operating capacities (ROC) of 1180 kg and above. With the introduction of the New Generation machines, JCB will be able to offer a complete range of wheeled and tracked machines, both radial and vertical lift, ranging from 590 kg to 1588 kg.

Samoter will also see the Vermeer Terrain Leveler Surface Excavation (SEM) attachment. Designed specifically for site preparation and excavation, surface mining, road construction and soil remediation, it has a patented tilting head with top-down cutting action for efficiency and deeper tooth penetration.

The Vermeer D20x22FX Series II Flex-Angle Drill, also on show, is described as an industry first. Vermeer said it was capable of drilling from 18° to 90° entry points - and anywhere in between.

Another exhibitor at Samoter will be Ormig, an Italian company manufacturing mobile industrial "pick and carry" cranes since 1949.

The present range covers cranes with capacities from 5,5 to 60 tonnes, with diesel or electric power in compliance with anti-pollution regulations.

Its latest addition is the 5.5tmE with 5,5 tonnes maximum lifting capacity at 1 m outreach from the front plate.

It is described as having compact overall dimensions - 1,60 m length and 2 m height with 9 m boom height from the ground. Ormig said it could easily access almost every confined space and hard-to-reach jobsite.

John Deere Power Systems' Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4 engines will be exhibited at Samoter by its Italian engine distributor, Rama Motori.

Until recently, John Deere marine and industrial engines were serviced mainly via the John Deere Italian agricultural network. But the company felt that as the number of engines grew, so did the need for more specialised support.

New dealers will be trained to provide expert service for OEMs, while other support includes smart tools and programs. The John Deere Service Advisor, for instance, is a computer program that aims to allow technicians to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly. The John Deere extranet provides them with spare parts references and other relevant information.

Represented by its official subsidiary Böcker Italia, the German Böcker Group will present its full product range at Samoter for the first time. For more than 25 years, Böcker has been known in Italy mainly for construction and furniture lifts on trailers and trucks. Now the company is intensifying its activities in the field of aluminium cranes, and rack and pinion hoists for the Italian market.

At the show, Böcker Italia will introduce some rack and pinion hoists. The Superlift MX 320 is described as a compact transport platform for personnel and material. The larger transport platform Superlift MX 1024 will also be shown in Verona.

Since its introduction, almost two years ago, the Böcker construction lift Junior HD 24K's concept of a compact trailer-based construction lift with integrated knee-joint is still unrivalled on the market, according to its manufacturer.
