Refinery work

25 April 2008

Ground engineering specialist Bauer is currently using two BG 14 rigs and a BG 30 rig to install more than 1000 rock socket piles for a new oil refinery in Vietnam. Bauer is undertaking the work for the Dung Quat Refinery as a subcontractor to the Technip Consortium - formed by France’s Technip, Japan’s JGC and Spain’s TR.

Bauer is installing the 800 mm diameter piles by driving single wall casings by vibration and then drilling into the bedrock to between 1.3 and 3.9 m, depending on the length of the pile. In addition, Bauer is also supervising the work of local ground engineering contractor VIC, which is carrying out the non-rock bearing piling work.

Work on construction of the refinery is expected to take two years to complete and is being carried out for Petro Viet Nam.
