Port proposed

Peru: Plans for development of a US$ 12 billion 'megaport' off the coast of Lima in Peru have been presented to the Peruvian Government. The scheme involves construction of a 17 km2 terminal on San Lorenzo Island.

According to one of the scheme's supporters Corporacion Megamar, the San Lorenzo site would offer water depths of up to 70 m. Corporacion Megamar president Marcos Bravo said, “San Lorenzo has the potential to become a multimodal regional hub for all of Latin America.”

Peru's congressional transport committee has already approved creation of the San Lorenzo multimodal transport authority and is expected to presidential approval early this year.
