Major League Baseball team the Oakland Athletics has hired a joint venture between Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction and Missouri-based McCarthy as the construction manager for the club’s proposed new stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Athletics, which have been based in Oakland, California since 1968, said that the Mortenson/McCarthy team will be responsible for overseeing all construction-related activities at the proposed US$1.5bn ballpark next to the MGM Grand Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard.
The Mortenson/McCarthy joint venture, which in 2020 completed construction work on the nearby Las Vegas Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium, will be in charge of preconstruction estimating, scheduling and logistics planning, bidding coordination and management of all craft employees and trade partners, labour relations and community engagement.
In an official statement, the Athletics added that the hiring is subject to approval by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.
“Mortenson/McCarthy brings an exceptional level of expertise and experience to our project. Their focus on innovation, safety and efficiency makes them the best in their field,” said the Athletics’ president, Dave Kaval.
“The Raiders project was a model of tremendous success, including a 31-month-long construction schedule, industry leading workforce diversity that exceeded local, small and women and minority-owned business goals, and established new benchmarks in sports construction in Southern Nevada.”
