Mexican paving

Local contractor Agacel, Agregados Y Asfaltos has used a Dynapac F30-4W paver to renovate part of Highway No 57 between Queretaro and San Luis Potosi in central Mexico. Highway 57 carries a large amount of heavy traffic and is one of the main northbound roads to the US border.

The renovation consists of a new 100 mm thick asphalt carpet, or wear course, being laid over the old surface. The asphalt used is modified with polymers, giving the highway a longer life and allowing a thinner asphalt layer to be laid.

The 10 m wide highway requires two passes to lay the asphalt 'carpet', a 6 m pass that includes the road shoulder, and a second 4 m wide pass. A 95% compaction Marshal is specified and, having laid the carpet, Agacel used a Dynapac CC43 vibratory double drum roller for breaking down the asphalt in two passes, followed by five passes with a Dynapac CP22. The final finish requires two passes of the CC43 in static mode.
