L&T to turn on the waterworks

27 March 2017

A consortium led by Larsen & Toubro (L&T)’s construction arm has been awarded a INR7.05 billion (US$108 million) contract to extend a water transmission pipeline in Tanzania.

The engineering, procurement and construction order was won by the Water & Effluent Treatment division of L&T’s construction business, but the project will be executed as a joint venture with the Indian engineering firm, Shriram EPC.

The pipeline will run from the Lake Victoria Water Supply scheme to the towns of Tabora, Nzega and Igunga.

The scope of the work includes survey, design, procurement, construction and installation of pumping systems, rising and gravity/main lines, elevated and ground level storage reservoirs, and water kiosks to provide water to Tabora town and 33 other villages en route.
