JCB expands in India

Construction equipment manufacturer JCB has invested £ 62 million (US$ 99 million) in a new manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

The company said it had signed an agreement to purchase land for the 70 acre (283280 m²) site, which will become JCB’s fourth factory in India.

JCB already operates a backhoe loader manufacturing base Ballabgarh, Haryana, and two factories in Pune which manufacture components, tracked excavators, wheeled loading shovels and compaction equipment. JCB uses its Indian manufacturing bases to export to Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia.

JCB chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said, “India is our single most important market and the long-term prospects for infrastructure growth are substantial. Our strategy is to carry on investing in India to keep pace with future economic growth and strengthen its position as market leader for construction equipment. Jaipur is a perfect location for the next phase of our expansion, especially with the opportunity to export more products.”
