International contract wins for Hochtief

German contractor Hochtief has been awarded new contracts worth US$ 727 million through its Australian subsidiary Leighton.

In Australia’s Port Lambert, John Holland is to build two new piers for use by commodities group Rio Tinto in a contract worth US$ 194 million. The Leighton subsidiary is also currently constructing Port B at the site.

Visionstream has begun work on expanding the social and urban infrastructure of the communications network in the Australian states of Victoria and Tasmania. The company will refurbish existing cables and do the groundwork for the laying of fibre optic cables. The project, awarded by telecommunications group Telstra, is worth US$ 94million and also allows for the contract to be renewed twice.

In Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, Leighton Contractors is to build the new corporate headquarters of Esso Highlands Ltd. Work will commence this year on the US$ 208 million contract.

In the Chinese special administrative region of Macau, Leighton Asia will handle the first construction phase for the five-star Wynn Cotai hotel. In addition to the hotel, the resort will feature numerous attractions, restaurants, shopping amenities and a nightclub. This first construction phase alone is worth US$ 231 million, making it the biggest contract in Leighton Asia’s history, and the fourth successive contract for Wynn Resorts. Work is scheduled for completion by 2016.
