Hinkley Point C engineers talk lift planning at WCTS

21 August 2019

Two engineers from the Hinkley Point C nuclear power project in the UK will use the World Crane and Transport Summit (WCTS) to give an inside view of lift planning and safety procedures being used at the site. The Summit is in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 13 and 14 November 2019.

Ashley Daniels, head of lifting and temporary works at EDF Energy at Hinkley Point C (HPC), and Garrick Nisbet, head of lifting assurance at consultant Notus Heavy Lift Solutions and lifting manager at HPC, will give a presentation on the first day of the two-day conference.

The £20 billion (US$ 24.3 billion) HPC power station is one the largest civil engineering sites in Europe, with 4,000 workers employed.

Among the numerous cranes on site is Sarens’ SGC 250 which, at 5,000 tonnes capacity, is one of the largest land-based cranes in the world.

Also speaking at the Summit will be Gert Hendrickx, sales director for projects at Sarens, who will consider the wider challenges for heavy lift and specialized transport companies working on global energy projects.

The line-up for WCTS is now largely complete, with 17 speakers from many companies, including: Fagioli, Sennebogen, Sarens, McKinsey, Cleveland Bridge International, Ainscough Crane Hire, EDF Energy, Faymonville, Kässbohrer and Demag Cranes.
