Heron Tower tops out

The Kohn Pederson Fox-designed Heron Tower in the City of London, London, UK has topped out at 202 m.

Constructed by Skanska for Heron International, the 202 m-high tower, also known as 110 Bishopsgate, will have a 28 m-tall spire placed on its roof, giving it a total height of 230 m, making it the tallest building in the capital.

The tower will provide 40850 m2 of office space up to its 38th floor. Levels 38-40 will be occupied by a restaurant, "skybar", and a roof terrace - London's highest outside space.
At the entrance to the tower a triple height ground floor will include one of "the largest fish tanks in London".

The tower's green credentials mean its southern façade features a network of photovoltaic cells. This side is also the location of the core, which is positioned to provide shading from the sun and reduce air conditioning costs.

The tower is designed to appear different from each direction with little symmetrical design and is split vertically into sets of three floors for potential clients to occupy.

Construction of the tower started in 2007 and the final fit-out is expected to be complete in February 2011.
