Heijmans CEO to stand down

Bert van der Els, CEO of Dutch contractor Heijmans, is to step down as a member of the company's executive board.

In consultation with the supervisory board, van der Els has decided to leave the executive board at the end of the general meeting of shareholders on 12 April, 2017, a decision that the company said was motivated by his desire to step down at the age of 62.

It said that until he left the role, he would remain active as a member of the executive board, and would, in particular, focus on completing a number of infrastructure and other projects.

The supervisory board has decided to appoint Ton Hillen, a member of the executive board since April 2012, as chairman of the executive board from 1 December, 2016.

Heijmans said that together with executive board members, Hillen would work on creating further focus on activities such as restoring profitability and strengthening financial ratios. It said that the company would exploit growth opportunities in the residential market to the maximum possible extent in the coming years, and would continue to work on the recovery of the infrastructure segment.
