Grant approved for Trans-African highway

15 February 2010

The African Development Bank (AFDB) has approved a US$ 36.2 million grant to finance the Aflao-Sanvee Condji Road Rehabilitation and modernisation project in Togo. The road is a major link in the Trans-African highway and financing will allow for the completion of the missing link on the Togolese section of the Abidjan to Lagos section.

AFDB infrastructure department director, Gilbert Mbesherubusa said, "This project constitutes an integral part of the Abidjan to Lagas Trans-African highway, which is a priority for both the economic community of West African states (ECOWAS) and the new partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).

"The highway is among the strategic road links in the zone and accounts for an important part of the road traffic between coastal cities in the sub-region of Abidjan, Accra, Lome and Cotonou," he said.
