GAP Group to offer machine control technology

19 February 2021

UK rental company GAP Group is adding Trimble machine control technology to its offer in a new partnership with software provider Sitech UK & Ireland.

The new partnership will bring Sitech's machine control technology to rental customers.

Sitech supplies Trimble Construction Technology which enables machines to determine and correctly handle the material they work with. Trimble uses 3D laser scanning to capture the shapes of physical structures and convert them into digital format.

GAP says the move responds to demand for machine control products from major projects and contractors in the UK, with the software allowing contractors to more flexibly handle information and data between site and office.

Jim Burke, GAP Group Head of Survey Technical Services, said the partnership would bring Sitech’s full service offer to customers. “Sitech’s technical experience and expertise are complemented by first-class support, service and training.”

GAP breaks new ground with the addition of Sitech machine control software to its rental offering.

The partnership builds on GAP’s existing range of geospatial survey equipment, including robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS network rovers. It also makes GAP the first authorised rental partner for Sitech across the UK, with GAP’s recently formed Technical Services unit, part of the Survey & Safety division, to supply Trimble through 14 UK-wide depots.

The unit will offer customers installation, operator training and repairs for Trimble technology, with plans to add HD scanner and monitoring solutions to its offer over the longer term.

David Kirkpatrick, Strategic Sales & Partnerships Manager at Sitech, said he welcomed GAP’s appointment as an authorised rental partner. “We are confident that the Technical Services unit will deliver the Trimble machine control in the same way we would ourselves.”
