Fluor wins big LNG contract

20 January 2011

Australian oil and gas exploration company Santos has awarded Fluor Corporation a US$ 3.5 billion contract for work on a liquid natural gas extraction project in Queensland.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract involves the construction of upstream facilities for the Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas (GLNG) project.

US contractor Fluor said it booked the contract in its fourth quarter 2010 earnings.

The latest contract comes after Fluor won the upstream engineering design contract for the same project in June 2009, together with an early works contract in May 2010.

The GLNG plant aims to extract 7.8 million tonnes of natural gas per year from coal deposits, before liquefying and exporting the fuel to Asia and other global markets.
