Ferrovial sees backlog swell to record figure

Ferrovial announced it is now holding a record backlog of nearly €25 billion after filing its third quarter results for 2013.

The Spanish contractor saw net profit rise 2% for the first nine months of 2013 to achieve €485 million. Revenue also expanded, up 4.9% to €5.93 billion.

The company said international activity had driven this growth, with international receipts accounting for 68% of the total.

Ferrovial ended the third quarter with a combined services and construction backlog of €24.4 billion, a record high in which international contracts dominated once again, accounting for 68% of the total (65% in services and 73% in construction).

New contract wins included the expansion of the North Tarrant Express in Texas, US plus the contract to upgrade the motorway network in central Scotland, which was awarded to a consortium involving Cintra, Amey and Ferrovial Agroman.
