Edinburgh Marina given full go-ahead

24 April 2017

Following initial consent for the overall masterplan in August 2016 and then approval of the further revised masterplan in February this year, the City of Edinburgh sub-committee has given detailed consent for the development of the boatyard and associated infrastructure for the new 300-berth Edinburgh Marina at Granton Harbour in Scotland.

Said to be the first new marina next to a capital city in Europe in several decades, it will be 4km from Edinburgh’s city centre and 12km from Edinburgh International Airport.

The development plans include over 2,000 new homes for more than 4,000 residents – including affordable housing and a retirement living complex – a luxury conference and spa hotel, a healthcare centre, and a retail and leisure centre.

Said to be one of largest private infrastructure projects currently taking place in Scotland, the value of the completed development is expected to exceed £500 million (€597.78 million).

Kevin Fawcett of developer Granton Central Developments said, “As well as the construction jobs, this development is projected to provide over 900 new permanent jobs.

“The new Edinburgh Marina will provide a vital boost to the Edinburgh economy and Scotland's marine tourism.”

The architect will be Wilson Gunn Architects.
