The contract for the widening of the 30 km section of the A12 motorway between Utrecht-Lunetten and Veenendaal in the Netherlands reached financial close on September 23.

The Netherlands Directorate-General for Public Works & Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) and Dutch-based construction group BAM signed the contract in July to design, build, finance and maintain the widening of the A12 Motorway.

The € 260 million project is being executed by several Royal BAM Group companies -BAM PPP, BAM Wegen, BAM Civiel, BAM Infratechniek and BAM Infraconsult.

Construction work is planned to begin early 2011 and with completion expected by the end of 2012. BAM said this relatively short construction period would significantly reduce the impact on road users.

The finance for this project will be provided by a consortium of banks consisting of BTMU, DZ Bank, Fortis, KBC, KfW and EIB.
