Dubai's RTA (Roads & Transport Authority) says "key bridges" on the city's First Interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road Project will open on May 30.

These include the traverse bridges across Sheikh Zayed Road, providing access in both directions from Al Safa Road to Financial Center Road giving "a seamless traffic flow from Al Safa Road towards Dubai", according to RTA chairman H.E. Mattar Al Tayer.

The First Interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road Project, considered one of the most important and sophisticated projects currently undertaken by the RTA, is now 80% complete, added Mr Al Tayer, and should open for traffic by the end of December.

The AED 617 million (US$ 168 million) First Interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road, which is being constructed by Italy's Salini, ranks among the biggest interchanges in Dubai Emirate. It features 3 km of bridges and an 850 m-long tunnel.

The completion of the First Interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road Project, will mark the completion of the sixth and final phase of the RTA's Ras Al Khor Road hub Contract; which stretches from the Airport Tunnel to the north extension of Beirut Road and terminates southward at the First Interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road, about 14 km.
