Bell rolls out new ADTs

Hauler specialist Bell has introduced its Stage IIIB-compliant articulated dump trucks (ADTs) in Europe. The eight model range - from the 20 tonne rated payload class B18D to the 45 tonne class B40D - feature new engines that use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to meet the required reduction in emissions.

Bell claims this technology is less restrictive and more fuel efficient than the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) approach that many rival manufacturers have opted for.

Designed and built by Mercedes Benz, the engines use high combustion temperatures to reduce particulate matter emissions, and then use a urea solution, known as AdBlue in Europe, which reacts in another catalyst-impregnated honeycomb material to reduce harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) back to nitrogen and oxygen.

In addition to the new engines, Bell has further upgraded several models. This Mk 7 range initially includes the B18D, B20D, B40D and B45D machines - ranging from the 20 tonne rated payload class up to the 40 tonne range - but will eventually include all of Bell's Tier IIIB ADTs.

Upgrades on the B18D and B20D models include the use of a new close range transmission, while the B40D and B45D have higher power engines and better tuning on the drive-line.
