Bam Nuttall appointed for HS2 work

A Bam Nuttall joint venture has been awarded one of three central enabling works contracts for UK rail project High Speed Two (HS2).

The contract – which will be worth up to £100 million (€116.32 million), over a four-year period – includes the early preparatory work ahead of the main civil engineering work, including archaeology, site clearance and setting up construction compounds.

The other two contracts are yet to be awarded, and all three contracts combined are worth £900 million (€1.04 billion). Several companies are on the shortlist, including a Balfour Beatty and Vinci joint venture, which appointed Peter Anderson as managing director for its HS2 bid in January.

The three contracts will cover Phase One from London to Birmingham, along with the connection to the West Coast Mainline at Handsacre, Staffordshire.

Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2017.
