Balfour Beatty joint venture awarded Hong Kong projects

Gammon, a Hong Kong-based joint venture from infrastucture giant Balfour Beatty has been awarded two development projects in Kowloon, Hong Kong, worth HK$6.1 billion (US$777 million).

The 50:50 joint venture with Jardine Matheson will be involved in the Kwun Tong Composite, where it will be responsible for the design and construction of a 25-storey building which will accommodate a new college and other training facilities, as well as a nine-storey building.

On behalf of Great Eagle Group, a Hong Kong-based real estate company, Gammon will also assume responsibility for the construction of five residential towers as part of the Ho Man Tin Package One project. Once completed it will accommodate 990 new apartments located atop the MTR Ho Man Tin Station underground station.

For the Ho Man Tin Package, Gammon will deploy the Enertainer, an electric-powered battery storage system used as the primary power source for construction machinery on site which will reduce the project’s carbon emissions and fuel consumption.

Commenting on the Kwun Tong Composite Development, Kevin O’Brien, Chief Executive of Gammon, said, “We will embrace modern methods of construction throughout, which will allow us to drive improvements in safety, quality, and waste reduction.”

The Kwun Tong Composite Development is scheduled for completion in 2026 while the Ho Man Tin Package One is expected to be completed in 2024.

Collectively, both projects will see 2,600 workers deployed to carry out works.
