Atlas Copco releases next-gen electric pump

A new electric-powered, submersible dewatering pump from Atlas Copco Power and Flow has hit the equipment market. Part of the manufacturer’s next generation of WEDA D drainage pumps, the D95 model is a 43kW unit that can handle clean or dirty water with solid particles measuring up to 12mm.

It is designed for general dewatering, ground water and raw water applications in harsh environments, such as mining, tunnelling and construction sites. The model incorporates Atlas Copco’s Wear Deflector Technology, which helps to “minimise wear and provide consistent performance over a longer operating life”.

Bart Duijvelaar, Product Marketing Manager for submersible pumps at Atlas Copco Power and Flow, said, “There are often many suspended solids in harsh applications which can cause excessive abrasion and wear to the internal workings of the pump.

“At Atlas Copco, we are driven by innovation, and so we have taken the fundamental design of the drainage pump back to the drawing board.

“We have optimized the hydraulic design using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and applied 21st century manufacturing techniques combined with decades of experience to produce this new long-lasting and reliable pump.”

The WEDA D95 is equipped with a wear-resistant impeller that is combined with solid-redirecting auxiliary vanes to maximise performance. It also has re-adjustable hydraulics that allow the pump to be realigned to compensate for any wear, extending its working life and lowering the total cost of ownership.

For easy maintenance and serviceability, the model has external oil inspection screws that mean the unit does not have to be dismantled for oil checks, and the pump’s mechanical seal has been redesigned as a single, stainless-steel cartridge.

Unlike previous models, which had a mechanical seal that was comprised of several components, the new cartridge can be easily replaced and enables inspections and maintenance to be carried out by users on site, reducing both downtime and costs.
