David Millar, who was Brookfield Multiplex’s project director for the 80 storey JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai, UAE, will give a presentation on the project at this year’s International Construction Economic Forum (ICEF). The hotel is one of five shortlisted schemes for the International Construction Project of the Year award, the winner of which will be announced during ICEF.

Mr Miller has worked in the Middle East since 1991 and joined Brookfield Multiplex in 1998. Schemes he has worked on in the region since then include the 354 m Emirates Towers and Taj Palace Hotel. He was senior construction manager on the 50-storey residential UP Tower in Dubai and project manager for Emaar’s Dubai Marina Phase 1 complex.

Since completion of the JW Marriott Marquis - the world’s tallest dedicated hotel and Marriott’s flagship hotel in the Middle East – he has relocated to Doha, Qatar to work on the complex and sophisticated Qatar National Library project.

Brookfield Multiplex was appointed by Emirates Airlines as the main contractor for the JW Marriott Marquis in 2007. The hotel is a twin tower complex that dominates the surrounding area on an ‘L’-shaped plot, and at 355m high it breaks the Guinness World Record for the World’s Tallest Dedicated Hotel.

As part of his presentation at ICEF, Mr Miller will talk about the complex design of the towers, with their intricate façade concept, curved vertical elements and expansive footprint and how Brookfield Multiplex took an innovative approach, involving close collaboration of all involved, to successfully deliver the project. This was achieved by working closely with both Emirates Airlines and Archgroup (the architect) from the initial stages through to handover.
