Ukraine and Moldova discuss joint bridge project

Dniester river crossing could reduce travel time between countries’ capitals to five hours

The presidents of Ukraine and Moldova announced they are discussing a bridge and highway project to improve links between their two capital cities.

They said the construction of a Yampol-Kasauti bridge on the Dniester river – together with a modern highway connection – would reduce travel times between the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and the Moldovan capital Chisinau, to around five hours.

The announcement came after the two premiers had met in Kiev to discuss methods of improving trade, both between their countries and with other states in eastern and central Europe.

Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, told Ukrainian News Agency, “One of the projects that were discussed during the meeting concerns development of road infrastructure on the Chisinau – Soroka – Yampol – Kiev highway.”

During the press conference she confirmed that European partners could potentially be involved in the implementation of the project, although no dates were given for its commencement.
