Terex picks Deutz for backhoe

11 March 2015

Deutz has announced that Terex has chosen it to supply engines for use in the company’s TLB840R backhoe loader. The TCD 3.6 diesel engine is used by Terex in other machines in its range.

The engine is said by Deutz to be the optimum solution for this application due to its power, durability, reliability and low fuel consumption. However it added that a special variant had to be developed for use by Terex due to the limited space available for the engine.

Deutz engineers combined the slim agricultural machinery variant of the TCD 3.6 with components from industrial applications to meet this challenge. They also optimised the engine management and performance for use in backhoe loaders. As a result, the 55.4 kW engine provides constant power across the 1,500 – 2,200 rpm range and develops 390 Nm of torque at speeds as low as 390 Nm. “This means that sufficient performance is always available, allowing equipment to be highly productive in extremely dynamic operating conditions,” said Deutz

Another key point is that engine is below the 56 kW threshold where European Stage IV emissions requirements begin. This means exhaust aftertreatment requirements are less stringent than with more powerful units and only a diesel oxidation catalyst is required.

This is the second major win for Deutz with its TCD 3.6 engine in the last six months. In October it announced Hitachi had chosen this unit to power the ZW100 and ZW120 compact wheeled loaders it sells in Japan and the US.
