Formwork and civil engineering specialist Peri has launched a new digitised kit for concrete temperature testing.

The Peri InSite Construction (ISC) Temperature Monitoring and Concrete Maturity Kit allows temperature readings to be taken from different points in concrete.

Compatible with all types of formwork systems, the kit sends temperature data to users in real time via the company’s InSite Construction web application.

According to Peri, the kit saves time by removing the need for contractors to take readouts and record measuring points during the concreting process.

Peri said, “In the case of mass concretes, the temperature difference between the core and outer layers can be monitored to reduce thermally induced cracking.

“The temperature measurement process also helps to determine the concrete maturity and thus the ideal time for striking.”

The kit comprises a technical cabinet, a main unit integrated into the cabinet as a gateway, five temperature nodes, an ambient climate node and 100m long temperature sensor cable.

While the sensor cable “can be installed in any area of the reinforcement prior to concreting”, the kit as a whole is said to be more sustainable as “no batteries, transmitters, receivers or circuit boards are left in the concrete after the system is used”.

Data gathered by the onsite kit is sent to users over wireless communication network and can be accessed and analyses by users via ISC Web application.

In addition to helping to improve the quality of the concrete, the company said using the temperature monitoring kits means users can also save money by optimising “the utilisation and operating times of the formwork”.

This means that either the striking process can be carried out earlier or that the amount of formwork material can be reduced.
