NACO and Parsons Brinckerhoff are consultants to the US$ 1.66 billion investment project for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport's new Terminal 3

A joint venture between Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO) and Parsons Brinckerhoff has won the € 33 million (US$ 44 million), seven-year contract to develop the new Terminal 3 Area of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TTIA). Construction of the new terminal, which will have a capacity of 43 million passengers per year, is expected to cost € 1.25 billion (US$ 1.66 billion).

The client, Taiwan Airport Company (TAC), has said it wants to incorporate Taiwan’s cultural heritage into the scheme, while making the terminal sustainable, operationally efficient and providing an excellent passenger experience. A further complication is that the site for the new terminal is on an operational airport.

Rik Krabbendam, managing director of NACO said, “We are very proud that TAC has entrusted our team with this assignment. The extension will allow the airport to regain a position as a major aviation hub and become an even stronger driver for the national economy, following examples set by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol among others.”

TTIA currently handles 25 million passengers per year. The addition of the new terminal is designed to take that capacity to 60 million by 2030. Plans envisage the new Terminal 3 being connected to the existing Terminal 2, with the area in between being developed to accommodate ground transportation, parking and commercial real estate. Both terminals will be served by a regional light rail system.
