22 June 2014

Ferrovial, through its construction subsidiary Ferrovial Agroman, and in a 50:50 joint venture with local company Al Fahd Contracting, has been awarded a SAR 726 million (US$ 194 million) contract to build section 2 d the new Riyadh access road.

The contract, awarded by ArRiyadh Development Authority (ADA), involves upgrading Abi Bakr As Siddiq road to international motorway standards. This includes the construction of 10 km of motorway, a central section with three lanes each way to motorway standards, and a frontage road on each side with at grade intersections.

Alejandro de la Joya, CEO of Ferrovial Agroman, said, "This is Ferrovial's first contract in Saudi Arabia, and it will enable us to demonstrate our extensive experience in highly complex technical projects in a country with ambitious infrastructure investment plans to support economic development.”

The project includes the construction of three interchanges using viaducts with spans of up to 80m. The entire route will be equipped with traffic control systems that will limit speed and regulate the central section's service level. More than 300,000 tonnes of tarmac and 100,000m3 of concrete will be needed for the new 10 km section of road.
