As part of a strategic project, FCC Construcción – the infrastructure arm of FCC Group – is building a new 15km-long urban motorway on Route 5 North, between Quilicura junction and Lampa.

Construction began in 2015, with a budget of €185 million (US$219.6 million), and involves the enlargement of the road to four lanes in each direction, along with three-lane service roads running each way.

The company is also constructing 14 pedestrian bridges and seven junctions for traverse connections, fitting continuous lighting along the route, and installing 44 bus stops.

There will also be a traffic management system to monitor conditions along the motorway.

The new infrastructure is intended to improve driving conditions for 18 million vehicles per year, reducing travel times and improving safety.
