A plan to add a US$390 million extension to the Clovis Community medical centre in California, US, has been approved by the Community Medical Centres’ board of trustees.

The four-year project will be funded by Clovis Community’s operations and by donations.

The 17,650m2 expansion will feature a five-storey tower with 144 private beds. It will add 1,390m2 to the hospital’s emergency room, create six additional operating rooms, 24 additional ICU beds, and expand the hospital’s radiology, pharmacy and laboratory services, along with the kitchen and dining areas.

The expansion will also include the building of an extra parking structure and a two-storey, 5,570m2 clinical and administrative support building.

Tim Joslin, Community’s president and CEO, said, “We need to significantly expand inpatient capacity in our hospital system, and this Clovis project is the quickest and most cost-effective way to do it.”

Site work is due to begin in May and the project is set for completion in 2022. It is expected that about 2,500 construction workers will be employed in the process.
