Dutch contractor Bam has won the contract to design and build the new Terminal 3 complex at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The contract for the Tanzania Airports Authority is valued at € 130 million (US$ 170 million).

The new terminal will handle international air traffic, leaving the existing Terminal 2 to focus solely on domestic flights. Phase 1 of the scheme will see the construction of the terminal building, parking lots, access roads and a taxiway, giving the facility a capacity of 3.5 million passengers per year. In the future, a second phase of development could take this capacity to 6 million passengers a year.

Bam has a long history of working on Julius Nyerere International Airport. In 2006 it completed a project to rehabilitate the main runway and upgrade Terminal 2’s apron. In 2010 it carried out work to renovate the airport’s infrastructure, including taxiways and lighting.
