Australian demolition specialist moves into UK

Liberty Industrial, an Australia-based provider of specialist decommissioning, deconstruction and remediation services, has expanded into the United Kingdom.

The award-winning contractor described the move was a major milestone in its mission to deliver best-in-class deconstruction and remediation solutions to the oil and gas, heavy industrial and power generation industries. Its UK business will be located in Teesside in the north east of England.

Liberty Industrial Award winning contractor Liberty Industrial was established in Australia and is looking to increase its presence in Europe

For founding director Clinton Dick, the decision builds on Liberty’s growing operational presence outside Australia and is representative of strategic plans for further market expansion into Europe.

“In the past 24-months and despite the impact of Covid, we were lucky to see growth and acceptance into international markets,” said Clinton.

“It made sense for us to open an office in the United Kingdom and leverage our capabilities across the oil and gas, power generation and heavy industrial sectors, particularly as the global marketplace is embracing a new era when it comes to clean energy.

“We have assembled a strong team in Teesside with a wealth of experience in preparing, planning and delivering complex projects across Europe. They also bring lessons learned from challenging projects in the North Sea which will see our onshore and offshore oil and gas capabilities expand across Europe.”

Heading up the Teesside operation is the vastly experienced Steve Andrew, who becomes global business development and asset closure director.

Steve has been actively involved in the demolition industry for over 40 years, firstly as a contractor and more recently as a consultant/clients engineer leading the planning, preparation and successful delivery of a significant number of high hazard sites for dismantling for reuse, demolition and land remediation.

“I have gone full circle from when I started in the industry as a wide-eyed 15-year-old,” said Steve.

“After being with ABB for more than 22 years, there are a few companies that I would have considered leaving my consultancy role for, but he attitude and commitment from Liberty Industrial in the professional delivery of projects made this decision an easy one.

“I am excited to be part of this new era for Liberty and look forward to growing the brand globally”.

Joining Steve to lead the new business are projects director Robert Barker, contracts director Jon Sowerby and Daniel Breeze, operations manager.
