African development funding

Africa: The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Fund (AfDF) have approved loans and grants totalling nearly US$ 360 million to finance infrastructure and other projects in different parts of the continent.

A US$ 149 million loan to Morocco will co-finance a US$ 864 million highway project, while a US$ 102 million loan will provide drinking water provision and sanitation in rural areas.

A US$ 100 million loan to the Development Bank of Southern Africa will support infrastructure development, expansion and rehabilitation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) area – Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Of this fund, the largest single loan is expected to be to Swaziland, which will receive US$ 8.4 million.
